Day 5 –
Tour the valley of the kings, Hatshepsut Temple, and the village of the workers.
On this day after breakfast, you’ll visit the famed Valley of the Kings, the final resting place for the kings of the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties, which was concealed between rocky cliffs. It’s mainly famous for its vivid wall paintings. The walls are decorated with texts and scenes describing one’s afterlife journey giving them instructions to complete their journey successfully. The tombs are open on a rotating basis to protect the paintings from damage by humidity as much as possible.
We will then visit the Worker Village, which describes the life of the ancient Egyptian middle-class life, and how their graves were completely different from the royal class’s graves, small and humble yet honorable, sacred and radiant with colors.
Last but not least, we will pay a visit to the tomb of the great woman pioneer: Queen Hatshepsut. The Temple of Deir Al-Bahri or Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple is situated at the foot of the sheer cliffs fringing the desert hills. The color contrast between the almost white sandstones of the temple and the golden yellow rocks and sand of the desert brings out the Temple in a magnificent image. Having survived the destructive attempts from King Thutmose all, the temple still stands with glory amongst other great temples. And at last, on our way back to the cruise ship, we’ll visit the Colossi of Memnon, they portray Amenophis III, sitting on a cube-shaped throne and once guarded the king’s temple entrance. The Temple of the gods: Sobek and Horus are represented in the forms of crocodile and falcon respectively.
